My name is Dominik Väyrynen, a scandinavian product focused designer, mentor & sailor with background in industrial design. I have 10+ years of experience in working with digital products. Currently designing at Shopify in Ottawa, Canada. Prior to that at Unity3D in Helsinki, Finland.

I specialize in Product & Web Design, Branding and Development.

I help clients develop and design easy to use, clean and modern websites that not only look great but make your customers happy, establish your brand and bring more revenue in.

I’m building new products and creating experiences at Unity as Senior Product Designer. Before that i was Head of Design at Nosto for a bit over 2 years. I studied Industrial Design in Northern Finland and from time to time i build things that are not digital.

I’ve had the privilige of working with some great companies, such as Björn Borg, Volcom, Bauhaus, Philips, Indiska, Aritunes, Housemarque, NetAnttila, MQ and Paul Evans.

Every month i help 2-3 aspiring designers. I share what i’ve learned past 10 years as designer. What mistakes i’ve made and what things to keep in mind when getting job in design.

These days you don’t need to spend $100,000 on a 4 year design degree, just to get entry level job. You don’t need Master degree to be a great designer. All you need is dedication, few bucks and some patience.

I mentor Design 101 and UX Academy at Designlab. Designlab is great if you’d like to learn from people who have worked at companies like Dropbox, Twitter, Uber, Foursquare, Pinterest and many more.
